Part 2 Exericse 3: Turning words into pictures

 Destruction

Childhood

Kitchen

During the exercise I chose 3 different words starting with destruction, childhood, and Kitchen. Thinking of the pictures to go with the words was not as fluid as I thought it would be. Initially a few things came easily to mind but after about 3 or 4 mini sketches I started slowing down and it ended up taking me up to a minute to think of something else which was a little frustrating. Nevertheless, I am happy with the things I drew, the textures and associations I came up with. Out of the 3 ‘Kitchen’ was weirdly the hardest word to illustrate, I think this was because of how specific it was compared to destruction and childhood which were a lot boarder. I used certain patterns and textures I felt symbolized physical things and personal associations from my head, for example Childhood the use of primary and bright colours reminds me of having fun, summer outside, spring, imagination, and colourful balls like from a ball pit or could even be seen as balloons. Destruction using dark colours and red for harshness because of the anger an emotion that can come with the word, rough and heavy scribbles to signify the mess. For kitchen I thought of the colours of food, neutral colours, and light as if the sun was shining through a window, the shapes of the gas hobs, even drawing what I think the sound of it igniting *click click click* would look like.
